Still Night Christmas Card

Hello Friends,

I'm glad last week is over.  I don't want to be sick like that again.  I'm happy to say, I'm feeling much much better.   I'm not at 100% yet but at least I have most of my strength back and gradually starting to do the things I like to do, so let's get to it and talk about this awesome card.

This is my new little friend Mr. Hootie the Owl and I just love him.  He is absolutely adorable! The stamp set is called: Still Night and the dies that coordinates with the stamps is called: Night Owl Thinlits Dies.  They can be purchased separately, but if you purchase them as a bundle, you save 10%.

If you look closely, you'll see a shimmer all over the entire piece of Night of Navy.  I hope you can see it because it is a beautiful technique and gives your card an elegant appearance.

The way I did it was, I mixed 70% alcohol with about 5 drops of the Frost White Shimmer Paint and shook it up really well.  There's a little marble in the bottle that mixes up the paint.  After its mixed up well, spray the cardstock and let it dry really good.  It doesn't take long at all because of the alcohol.

One thing to keep in mind is, you don't want to spray it too close to the cardstock or you may get splotches, so I sprayed it at arms length.  However, if you want a heavier splotchy look, by all means, spray it closer.  One thing that's good about his technique, you can spray it as close or as far away as you want, and as little or as much as you want.  I just wanted a light shimmer for the night sky, so I chose to spray it at arms length, and I'm happy with the results.

I used Soft Suede and Very Vanilla cardstock for the branches and cut them from the Night Owl Thinlits Dies.  Mr. Hootie the Owl was stamped with Soft Suede Classic Ink onto Very Vanilla cardstock, and was also cut from the same thinlits dies.  Mr. Hootie the Owl was colored with the watercolor pencils in a light coat of Early Expresso and blended with the Blender Pens to round out the color.  I added Clear Wink of Stella to his feathers, eyes, beak and feet.  I think, Mr. Hootie the Owl is by far a "cutie"!  Don't you agree?

The half moon and stars were cut out from a scrap piece of Crushed Curry cardstock and punched out with the Twinkle Builder Punch.  The sentiment on the front of the card was cut out from the second smallest scallop circle die from the Layering Circles Framelits Dies and sponged around the edges with Soft Suede Class Ink.

The copper foil corners were cut from the Detailed Deer Thinlits Dies and adhered to the two opposite corners with multipurpose liquid glue.  The sentiment is from the Dashing Deer Stamp Set and was stamped with Night of Navy Classic Ink

Measurements:
Very Vanilla Card Base - 8 1/2" x 5 1/2" scored at 4 1/4"
Copper Foil Layer - 4" x 5 1/4"
Night of Navy Layer - 3 3/4" x 5"
Soft Suede and Very Vanilla for branches - 3" x 3 1/4"
Very Vanilla for the Owl - 1 1/2" x 2 1/4"
Night of Navy for Inside Layer - 4" x 5 1/4"
Very Vanilla for Inside Layer - 3 3/4" x 5"
Scrap Very Vanilla for the greeting on the front of the card

Use Copper Foil to cut the detailed corners on the inside.  They  were cut from the above 4" x 5 1/4" layer.  Actually, I got to cut quite of few things from the center of that layer.  Make good use of that copper foil layer.  Cut as much as you can out of it, as long as you leave enough all around for the border.  Everything you cut in the middle will not show when you layer another piece of cardstock on top of it, so don't waste it, make the best of it and cut what you can out of it..

I'm very pleased with this card and hope you love my Mr. Hootie the Owl as much as I do and give him a thumbs up!  I'm also very pleased with the look of the Frost White Shimmer Paint on the Night of Navy cardstock for the sky. Perhaps, you might want to give the Shimmer paint a try. I think you'll like it.   It comes in 4 colors: Frost White, Champagne Mist, Bright Copper and Vegas Gold.  All are beautiful and give you a different look.
